Houseplants Cleanse the Air

Submitted by garden lady on Wed, 02/03/2010 - 4:36pm.

Houseplants in your home and office may be the best housecleaners money can buy. According to a study by NASA and the Associated Landscape Contractors of America, the following houseplants help get rid of common household toxins. As the article I read, goes on to say, toxins like benzene ( found in detergents, rubber, inks and paints), formaldehyde (used in particle board and grocery bags), and trichloroethylene (used in varnishes, adhesives and paints) are prevelent in our homes. Dosen't that make you wonder what more pollution can our bodies endure.

Michigan State Flower and State Bird

While I am sitting here at my computer, I can look outside and see what a cold, blustery day we are having.  The temperature is about 15 degrees and the wind is coming from the west.  It is cold.  A good day to sit in the house and have a second cup of hot coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

Winter Fire Safety & You

My hydrant.jpg

Be a good citizen and adopt a fire hydrant in your neighborhood. Keep it clear and ready for action. I've been taking care of one for 4 years now and it's not even in front of my house. However, it will be the one the Fire Dept. will use if I need them. I'd rather they fight the fire and not waste valuable time trying to find the hydrant under a snowbank. So grab that shovel and go dig, it feels good.

It is time to start putting your garden to sleep for the winter. Somehow, it just doesn't seem possible that September was one of the best summer???months in years. July was very cool, overcast, and felt more like fall than summer. Global Warming???
