Walk For Warmth benefits those in the Ottawa County community who are unable to pay their utility bills.

Join us for free bagels and coffee, then take a two-mile stroll around downtown Zeeland to show support for those remain inside their homes, cold, in the midst of winter.

There is requirement to donate to Walk For Warmth, but all donations are welcome.

Participants in this year’s Walk For Warmth, held Saturday, February 14 at City On A Hill in Zeeland, represented 13 different schools from all over Ottawa County. Of the approximately 180 walkers, most were students.

Zeeland High School Spanish III and IV classes raised a record number of pledges this year. The ZHS contingent led by Spanish teacher, Becky Purnell, raised over $3400, and provided nearly half of the number of walkers.

The City of Zeeland on Valentine’s Day was host to a very successful fund-raising event called The Walk For Warmth. The Walk was held at City On A Hill Ministries where approximately 180 people representing 12 towns, 13 schools and 16 companies, as well as families coming to walk and contribute, brought in over $6,000 to bolster Ottawa County Community Action Agency’s Utilities Assistance Fund. Including corporate sponsorships the 2009 Walk For Warmth raised a total of $21,000.

Coopersville High School Senior, Krystal Wilson has the winning design for the first Walk For Warmth poster contest. Her design was amongst 27 other designs submitted. The poster will be displayed throughout the county to promote the Walk For Warmth, raising money for people who cannot heat their homes, Saturday, February 14 at City on A Hill in Zeeland.

Every poster design was juried at the Holland Area Arts Council in Holland just as other fine art is juried for art shows. The other designs will be shown in the Arts Council located at 150 E. 8th Street, downtown Holland.

Perhaps you’ve heard of the annual Walk For Warmth? It’s an event sponsored each year by the Ottawa County Community Action Agency. The CAA helps individuals and families in Ottawa County - from Conklin to Holland - who are struggling with financial self-sufficiency. The Walk For Warmth raises funds to keep Ottawa County homes heated during the winter.

The annual Walk For Warmth, sponsored by Ottawa County’s Community Action Agency, will be held this year on Saturday, February 14 at 8:30 am at City On A Hill ministries in Zeeland and will be a 2-mile stroll around downtown Zeeland.
