Holland, MI – May is National Foster Care Month and several greater Holland area churches are joining hundreds of other churches across the country in hosting a prayer vigil for children in foster care.  The local Foster Care Prayer Vigil is at Ridge Point Community Church in Holland on Tuesday, May 18 from 4pm - 9pm.  Join us indoors for hands-on and reflective prayer points, or head out and follow the prayer points on the Prayer Walk along trails surrounding the church campus.  Live worship will start at 7pm.  Local foster care agency staff will be on hand throughout the vigil to answer questions. For those unable to make it to Holland, the Orphan Ministry Alliance - West Michigan will hold an extension of the vigil on Facebook from 6am - 10pm.

The National Foster Care Prayer Vigil is the week of May 16-23.  Several national organizations including Focus on the Family, Hope for Orphans, a ministry of FamilyLife, and Show Hope (founded by Grammy winning singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth) are encouraging people to gather together to pray for the 500,000 children growing up in the foster care system.

As part of this national effort, the Holland area prayer vigil will focus on Michigan's 19,000 children and youth in foster care. The prayer vigil will provide an opportunity to remember and pray for these children, their biological families, and the families, caseworkers and judges working hard to help find them loving homes.  A special focus will be placed on the 6000 children in Michigan with parental rights terminated, waiting for forever homes.
